Maradona ...My Father's Hero

Image
The  year was 1990, our television was black & white, the newspapers were black & white, then how do I know Cameron was wearing green & red  and Argentina was wearing blue & white ?   My first memory of watching a football match live on TV was the opening match of 1990 World Cup between underdog Cameroon and defending champion Argentina. We remember waiting for our uncle to finish watching his favourite 8.30pm news bulletin on DD. Permission to bring his TV to our bed room was already granted in the morning. Before our uncle and aunty went to sleep, we brought the TV to our room. My elder sister carried the portable TV carefully and I followed her   holding the miniature flexible antenna attached to the set. We placed it carefully on my study table, keeping aside all my books below.   We were part of a huge joint family and my father’s eldest brother ( Moina Borta)   used to have a television in his room. Finding richness in Mohmmad Mathew Ram College

When, all the seventh semester students of Mohmmad Mathew Ram College were busy developing meaningful social projects on poverty  alleviation , human rights, unemployment, women empowerment and child labour, Venkat and Christopher  decided to work on a fun project to “identify  the richest student in their campus”. The idea was to convienced the rich student to sponsor the football team from the nearby slum. Even these non-reflective rich should not be missed out from their radar. Since, more pair of eyes will be required to reach maximum potential customers, they decided to take few more friends into confidence. These friends finding thei...

My personal tribute to Tapan Moha

More than a decade ago when I first released the atom bomb of marrying a girl from outside Assam, many in my family were not sure how to react. “Axomor suwali ajoni holay alop besi bhal asilay niki”, “Chandigoror suwali kanekuwa ba hoi” were some of the common concerns. Except for one person at the Khanapara Veterinary housing campus who had a totally different opinion in support of my decision to marry the girl from Chandigarh and it was non other than Tapan Moha. This, what makes him special, the ability to see the brighter side of life in any given situation. Close to thirty years ago, I as a eleven years old was in Guwahati to attend a selection trails for the Assam state team   when I first saw Tapan Moha in the attire of   a groom at Lakhimi Tent house, Beltola. No, he was not that handsome kind of groom, whom girls will fall for at the first glance.   But I bet after knowing him every girl in this world would love to have a husband like Ta...
